“If you simply must have the fastest GPU on the planet, look no further than the GeForce GTX 480.”
Hot Hardware Approved Award “The GeForce GTX 480 is faster than the Radeon HD 5870 overall and its forward thinking design lays the foundation for future generations of NVIDIA processors moving forward, as the G80 did for much of the previous generation.”
Hot Hardware Approved Award “The GeForce GTX 480 is faster than the Radeon HD 5870 overall and its forward thinking design lays the foundation for future generations of NVIDIA processors moving forward, as the G80 did for much of the previous generation. “When you get right down to it the GTX 480 offers up better performance than the HD 5870. That's the expectation the world had for this card. In 44 out of 48 tests run the GTX 480 delivered a higher level of performance, a pretty stout performance. In the four tests that it did not outright win, two showed performance equal to the HD 5870 and the two it lost were not by a large margin. With those kind of performance results I have to say that NVIDIA delivered a card that did what it was meant to do, deliver a higher level of performance. This was more evident in the newer games and DirectX 11 game and benchmark results where the GTX 480 cleaned house."
“In the end, the 480 GTX offers superlative single GPU performance at a suggested price point that seems about right.”
“NV Surround gaming with GTX 480 SLI will give you the best gaming experience you have ever had.”
BJORN3D Golden Bear Award “Fermi represents a quantum leap in GPU graphics and computing.”
“The GTX 480 is a powerhouse, leaving ATI's fastest single-GPU card, the Radeon HD 5870, in the dust on our benchmark tests”
“The GTX 480 packs the kind of features you'd expect from a new top-end card, and offers enough that's new to justify its $499 price for people who haven't upgraded in a while.”
“All the data we have points GF100/GTX 480 being much more powerful than the Radeon 5000 series when it comes to tessellation.” “[In OpenCL performance], the GTX 480 is the clear winner, while even the GTX 285 beats out both Radeon cards. These results are going to be worth keeping in mind as real OpenCL applications eventually start arriving.” “To wrap things up, let’s start with the obvious: NVIDIA has reclaimed their crown – they have the fastest single-GPU card.”
PC Per Gold Award “If we look at the numbers in their most raw form, the results are pretty damn impressive as NVIDIA is able to get more out of a single GPU (and 3.2 billion transistors) than anyone else has been able to do. Compared to the Radeon HD5870, AMD's fastest single-GPU graphics solution, the GTX 480 is a dominant force that only on a very rare occasion left the door open for AMD. In games from Batman to Far Cry 2 and even DiRT 2 and the new Metro 2033, if you require a single GPU solution then the GTX 480 is going to be the best performing option for you.”
“Dominating” is the only word we can use to describe the GTX 480’s performance in Far Cry 2 8x AA. Not only does it leave the HD 5870 in the dust but it also manages to beat out the HD 5970.” “In addition, idle temperatures are actually quite good and fly in the face of previous rumours.” “..the GTX 480 redefines performance for single GPU cards and at times does so in a wholly convincing manner. Minimum framerates are all-important as well and tell an extremely important story since it is more than obvious NVIDIA’s current flagship provides a much less drastic average / minimum performance delta than the HD 5870.”
“In summary, NVIDIA's GF100 Fermi GPU delivers more than just a giant boost to video frame rates over their previous generation, it also delivers GPGPU functionality that is usable in- and outside of video games. Performance increases over the GeForce GTX 285 were dramatic, and often added nearly 300% improvements.
