Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Receives TXAA Anti-Aliasing Update
Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter is Cryptic Studios’ take on the classic tabletop role-playing game, but unlike most other videogame interpretations, Neverwinter is massively multiplayer, and free-to-play. All you need to get started is the game client, available direct from publisher Perfect World, and from Steam.
If you’ve yet to plunge into Neverwinter’s expansive world, now is the perfect time – the start of December saw the launch of a new, expansive campaign module, this week sees the launch of the Winter Festival event, and the game now looks smoother and clearer with the introduction of NVIDIA TXAA Anti-Aliasing.
If you’re unfamiliar with our GeForce GPU-exclusive anti-aliasing, NVIDIA TXAA is a custom-developed technique designed to tackle temporal aliasing, the movement of anti-aliased edges when the player’s camera or view point moves. Referred to as crawling and shimmering, this movement is a particular eyesore in games with fine detail, like that found in Neverwinter’s urban environments.
Combining Multisample Anti-Aliasing (MSAA) with a custom CG movie-style resolve, and a temporal filter, TXAA effectively combats temporal aliasing whilst simultaneously anti-aliasing geometry to a degree comparable to that of 2xMSAA and 4xMSAA. An example of the technology can be seen below in our Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter GeForce GTX Technology Trailer.
If you have a GeForce GTX 600 or 700 Series Kepler GPU, TXAA Anti-Aliasing can be enabled in Neverwinter by opening the “Video” options menu, selecting “Direct3d 11” in the “Video card” dropdown, restarting the game, then scrolling down into the “Advanced Video Settings” section of the Video options menu, and selecting “TXAA” in the “Antialiasing” dropdown. The “Antialiasing Quality” setting directly below enables you to adjust the quality of the effect.
If that sounds like a lot of fuss, load up our free GeForce Experience application and you can instantly configure the game’s 28 graphics settings with a single click, giving you the perfect balance between performance and image quality, determined by measuring the speed of your system’s particular configuration.
In addition to optimizing your favorite games with a single click, GeForce Experience also streams games to the NVIDIA SHIELD handheld, updates your drivers and driver profiles, records gameplay footage via our innovative ShadowPlay software, and streams gameplay live to Twitch.tv, without the need for additional hardware or software. In short, it’s the perfect game-enhancing package, helping you to get the most from your games and your PC.
Download GeForce Experience, update your drivers, and begin your dungeon delving career in Neverwinter today. For more on Neverwinter’s graphics, make sure to check out our Dungeons & Dragons: Neverwinter Graphics and Performance Guide.
