Our own Leslie Pirritano had the opportunity to speak with Valve Project Manager Erik Johnson regarding Dota 2 and its $1 million dollar tournament. The award marks the largest cash prize for any e-sport competition to date.

Regardless of the unprecedented prize, Johnson said the passionate players participating in the tournament would play the action RTS just as hard if the winnings were a single dollar.

The live-streaming Gamescom tournament has drew in the world's 16 best Dota teams to the Cologne, Germany show floor. Teams are composed of up to six participants and have players hailing from all across the globe with representatives from China, the United States, Denmark, Malaysia, and more. While the game is currently only playable for the top players in the world, Valve is planning a public beta for the game. To find out how you can sign up to gain access, click here.
