Hawken is an action-packed, fast-paced, free-to-play, mech-based, multiplayer first-person shooter, set in a visually-rich future setting destroyed by corporate greed.
Developed using Unreal Engine 3, Hawken looks fantastic, putting players in the cockpits of lethal mechs, each with their own weapons, loadouts, and perks. At launch, two modes will be on offer: Team Deathmatch, and Siege. In Siege, teams must collect energy, deliver it to their base, and ultimately launch a powerful battleship, which will assist in the destruction of the enemy’s base and battle ship, and result in ultimate victory. With a frantic balance between energy collection and base defense, Siege requires teams to work together and field a balanced mix of heavy and light mechs, capable of fending off enemies.
Through kills and match victories, players will rank up and unlock new items for their mechs, opening up new tactical opportunities and new play styles. Being a free-to-play title, players also have the option of speeding progress along through the use of real money transactions, though these do not grant additional power or a competitive edge over players who progress through exclusively through the use of experience.
On the tech side of things, Hawken is a tour de force, sporting the aforementioned, advanced Unreal Engine 3 graphics, but also GPU-accelerated PhysX effects that add destruction particles, extra, realistic weapon effects, and more to the game (stay tuned to GeForce.com for an in-depth look at these effects). 3D Vision is also fully supported, and multi-GPU users will be pleased to hear that a SLI profile is ready and waiting for Hawken’s official release on 12/12/12.
