Ragnar Tørnquist’s adventure games are lauded by those in the know for their progressive design, adult stories, and unique mechanics. Understandably, gamers were excited when Funcom announced that Ragnar would be leading development of The Secret World, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game.
Set in the real world, The Secret World has players join one of three mythological secret societies who are forced to battle demonic incursions in a fully-voiced Player Versus Enemy campaign penned by Tørnquist. Player Versus Player battles are also present, shedding light on the tussle for control between the three organizations, each age-old enemies. Forgoing classes and traditional leveling, The Secret World presents all players with one base character to advance however they desire, resulting in thousands of possible builds that can be further diversified and then subsequently advanced and modified by loot, making PVP matchups especially interesting.
Technologically, The Secret World is the most advanced MMORPG to date, boasting DirectX 11 effects, tessellation, ambient occlusion, FXAA anti-aliasing, and a number of other niceties. At launch, or following sometime thereafter, The Secret World will also support 2D Surround, 3D Vision, 3D Vision Surround, and our brand new TXAA anti-aliasing
, introduced alongside the GeForce GTX 680. For further details, check out our in-depth tech video interview
with Rui Casais, Funcom’s Chief Technology Officer.
