Battlefield 3 Finally Unveiled - Check Out The Teaser Trailer!

Battlefield 3 has been in development for some time, something EA has made no apologies for. Both they and DICE understand just how fondly Battlefield 2 is remembered and so want to ensure that the sequel is perfect once it eventually deploys to the PC. Well that day appears to finally be approaching with the release of the first official trailer for the game, as well as some juicy morsels about the sequel’s technological advances.

Frostbite, DICE’s in-house engine, now sports deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, an animation system borrowed from an EA Sports game, and a whole new level of destructibility, ensuring that the warzones depicted are more breath-taking and deformable than even those seen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Now at version 2.0, Executive Producer Patrick Bach described Frostbite as "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games." As teased in the trailer, player-controlled jets return to the fray for the first time since Battlefield 2, as does proning. Multiplayer will support up to 64 players, and there'll be a co-op, story-led campaign, in addition to the single-player offering.

EA's official press release paints a dramatic picture of the combat that they hope players will experience through the use of Frostbite 2.0: "One moment you may be marching down a hilltop listening to the hypnotic sound of a firefight in the distance or admiring the way the light reflects off the smoke plumes of ground to air missiles rising from the city you’re about to engage. The next you’re on an urban street, surrounded, claustrophobic, fighting for your life and looking eight ways at once with all your senses on high alert, chilled at the knowledge that the building you’re hiding behind can be your best friend or your worst enemy." Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until Fall 2011 to see if EA and DICE can achieve such lofty goals, but just remember, there will be a PC beta test before the end of October, and those who purchased Medal Of Honor are guaranteed entry.
