Dead Rising 2: Off The Record Reintroduces Frank West

If the conclusion of Dead Rising 2 left you wanting more zany zombie action, then rejoice, Capcom’s announced Off The Record at their annual Captivate press event. More of a remix than an entirely new game, Off The Record places the original Dead Rising protagonist, Frank West, into Fortune City, the stomping ground of Dead Rising 2’s Chuck Greene. Sounding worryingly like a cheap botch job to earn some quick cash, Capcom is eager to affirm that Off The Record will contain more than enough new content to justify its full-price retail release.

Unfortunately, Capcom insists on keeping these details guarded until June’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, leaving us with a generalised list of enhancements, including “new enemies and more psychotic Psychos, new crazy and hilarious combo-weapons, new items and vehicles, new story and missions unique to Frank West,” and “new environments.”

As in the original Dead Rising, Frank will be able to use his trusty camera to earn Prestige Points for specific photo opportunities that are, “graded against criteria such as horror, drama, erotica and brutality.” Launching this Fall, the only other element of note in Off The Record’s skimpy fact sheet is promise of technical updates, “including load time optimisations, improved network performance and a host of system upgrades to deliver a more satisfying Dead Rising experience.”

We’re big fans of Capcom’s 3D Vision-enabled Dead Rising 2, so here’s hoping that there really is enough new content to justify a full-price release for Off The Record, or we might just have to go on the record to express our displeasure.
