GeForce Starcraft Tournament Update: July 15th

By Jacqueline Geller

The NVIDIA GeForce Starcraft II Pro/Am Tournament is well underway and off to a great start! With over one third of the Professional Qualifying Round and nearly all of the Amateur Preliminary Qualifying Round matches being played, the tournament is shaping up to be a success. The tournament started off right with an outstanding number of players signing up for the amateur division, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the tournament!

This week the GSPA featured great games between some incredible players. Then again, with the roster this tournament has, every featured match is going to be between great players. Filled with the world’s top SC2 players, from fan favorites to RTS legends, there will be no shortage of excitement in this tournament.

The series featured this week between GoOdy and vileSpanishiwa was between two of the most innovative SC2 players. Regardless of race, the EU Terran, GoOdy, opts for mech builds and is known for his long, macro games. Spanishiwa has become popular in the North American SC2 scene by streaming ladder matches featuring his unique Zerg style. Both of these professional players are great to watch, especially for any amateurs looking to expand their build order repertoire or looking to learn a new play style.

A second must-watch GPSA featured match this week was between an eSports legend, SlayerSBoxeR, and a fairly unknown EU player, MYMXlorD. BoxeR is one of the world’s most infamous Starcraft players, coming to the SC2 scene after many successful years as a Brood War player. MYMXlorD is a bit of an unknown in the GSPA, but he is a strong player on the EU ladder despite minimal tournament experience. This short series featured some great plays from both sides of the map.

As the GSPA continues, we are excited to see the great matches that will be featured in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned to find out which players will have what it takes to advance to brackets and which will be left behind!
