Nine New Must-Play NVIDIA SHIELD Games
The NVIDIA SHIELD features a robust and constantly growing library of great games. From full PC games that can be instantly streamed to SHIELD via GeForce NOW like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to next-gen Android games enhanced for Tegra technology, NVIDIA’s SHIELD family of devices offer something for every gamer. Here is a look at a collection of new games available to download and enjoy on SHIELD this month.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch
The first Octodad woke us up to a very worrying fact: There are cephalopods walking amongst us and they're quite good at disguising themselves. In the sequel, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, the elusive Octodad must continue to hide his identity as he flops around and performs various chores. You'll never take your everyday two-legged shopping and cleaning for granted again.
With its sense of humor and hilarious physics, Octodad: Dadliest Catch serves up a heaping portion of fun on NVIDIA SHIELD. There's even an origin story for Octodad, if you think you can handle such drama. Octodad: Dadliest Catch is available to download for $4.99.
Dead Effect 2
Set immediately after the cataclysmic events of the original game, Dead Effect 2 is a horror-themed first-person shooter that takes place on board the ESS Meridian, a spacecraft that has become infested with a nightmarish array of enemies. Expect to get up close and personal with blood-hungry zombies, shrieking demon-like abominations, and eyeless horrors with gaping mouths lined with needle teeth.
Featuring gorgeously detailed visuals and carnage optimized for SHIELD TV, Dead Effect 2 pits players not only against the undead like the first game but a new life-threatening menace that has the power to enslave your mind.
With three fully-customizable characters to play as and more than 40 different upgradable weapons to wield, Dead Effect 2 has a lot to offer fans of horror and shooters on SHIELD. The game is now available to download as a free-to-play title.
Minecraft: Story Mode
The expansive world of Minecraft has a surprising amount of lore bubbling under its blocky surface. Telltale Games' Minecraft: Story Mode is a new adventure game where you must solve puzzles, uncover secrets, and interact with characters. And, like most of Telltale's titles, your actions have a direct impact on how others view you. What you say and do in the game will also ultimately impact how its storyline unfolds.
Minecraft: Story Mode features an all-star cast of voice actors including Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber and Corey Feldman. It's a prime choice for Minecraft fans of any age, though its family-friendly content presents a great way to bring parents and kids together in the living room. It’s available on SHIELD for $4.99.
X-Plane 10 demonstrates just how far flight simulators have come in delivering realism and jaw-dropping attention to detail. Designed for professional and casual flyers alike, X-Plane 10 features a huge line of meticulously detailed aircraft that spans single-engine Cessnas all the way to missile-launching war planes.
The game offers numerous challenges and tutorials to keep players constantly honing their piloting skills. Flying in the game is stunningly realistic with impressive lighting effects, a day-night cycle, and myriad weather conditions that make landing your aircraft an intense challenge.
You can download X-Plane 10 on SHIELD for free.
The Great Wobo Escape
The premiere episode of The Great Wobo Escape tells the story of a little robot, Wobo, who must flee from his hazardous surroundings as quickly and as stealthily as possible.
Stealth and robots typically don’t go together which is why The Great Wobo Escape presents players with a unique gameplay experience. Use your surroundings in clever ways to hide yourself, or you can create diversions in order to buy yourself a few precious seconds. If all else fails: Run.
With its vibrant graphics, memorable soundtrack, and addictive gameplay, The Great Wobo Escape is an excellent addition to SHIELD’s library and is available now for $4.99.
ContrastContrast is a puzzle platforming adventure that blurs the line between the waking world and surreal lands of dreams and darkness. You play as Dawn, an imaginary friend of a little girl named Didi—but as players will discover Contrast plays with the term "imaginary" very loosely.
Contrast's vaudeville-inspired world of light and shadow slips in and out of the 2D and 3D planes, challenging you to manipulate light sources in multiple dimensions to force certain truths about Dawn and Didi to the surface.
It's one of the most intriguing games available on SHIELD, and is really for fans of atmospheric adventure titles that play with your perception of reality. Contrast is now available to own on SHIELD for $14.99.
CODEX: The Warrior
Featuring bold Unreal Engine powered visuals and action, CODEX: The Warrior is a dark-fantasy-themed hack-and-slash adventure game now available on NVIDIA SHIELD. Players face off against an imposing array of enemy aggressors in fast-paced, weapons-based combat. Players must block and dodge enemy attacks while waiting for the perfect moment to counterstrike. You can also unleash special attacks to deal an extra amount of damage to foes. CODEX: The Warrior is available to download on SHIELD as a free-to-play game.
Pix the Cat
In Pix the Cat from Pastagames, players must chase a high score by rounding up scattered ducklings to safety. Every egg you pick up hatches a new life, which Pix must deposit safely. If you manage to clean up each egg before you deposit your charges, you get a huge combo bonus.
But it's trickier than it sounds. There's an element of another arcade classic at work here: Snake. As your tail of ducklings grows, it becomes harder and harder to avoid crashing into a wall or running into your own tail. And the more you play, the faster the action becomes and the more frequently stage hazards pop up. Do you persist and work towards that big point combo bonus, potentially losing everything? Or do you play it safe and herd smaller duck-rows to safety before they become unmanageable? It's not easy being a mother.
Download Pix the Cat on NVIDIA SHIELD for $9.99.
Heckabomb is a twin-stick spacebound shooter that recalls classics like Asteroids, but has some cool modern updates and ideas. Aliens have destroyed your home planet, and the only artifact to survive, a doomsday weapon called the Heckabomber, is loaded for revenge.
You sail from enemy world to enemy world, turn the planets into rubble, and then glean the wreckage for upgrades to your personal Death Star. It's a bit of a dark task, all things told, but undeniably fun.
Fans of intense shooting games—particularly "bullet hell" games, wherein the projectiles fly thick and fast and barely leave you time to breathe—will definitely want to give Heckabomb a go. The action, which runs at a steady 60-frames-per-second, will make even the most hardcore shooter fans break out in a sweat.
Heckabomb's chain of destruction and re-construction (to say nothing of its vast arsenal of weapons, including chain-lightning guns and bullet deflectors) offers a kind of satisfaction that reaches deep inside and talks to the part of you that never stopped loving intense arcade titles. Get Heckabomb on SHIELD for $3.99.
