SHIELD owners are getting three new games to play on the GRID game service starting with today’s release of indie gem La-Mulana, which will be followed by Homefront and F.E.A.R. 3 over the next two weeks. Plus, NVIDIA has added a new datacenter in Central Europe that will reduce latency for people connecting to GRID in that region.

La-Mulana is a remake of a 1980s classic that features retro-style artwork and intense 2D side-scrolling gameplay. Armed only with a whip you set out to explore the trap- and puzzle-laden ruins of the ancient city of La-Mulana, which is said to be the beginning of all civilization.

What La-Mulana may lack in terms of cutting-edge visuals it makes up for with raw challenge. Exploring each and every room is a high-risk affair that may have you cursing at times while simultaneously hitting the reload button “for just one more try”.

To play, navigate to the GRID Games menu within SHIELD Hub, select La-Mulana in the list of available titles, and see if you can uncover its secrets!

La-Mulana is the first of three new GRID games coming to SHIELD. On May 26, you can join the resistance in the first-person shooter Homefront and fight against the Korean People’s Army, which has occupied the Western United States. Then, on June 2, you can crank the first-person tension to maximum with F.E.A.R. 3.

GRID Continues to Grow

NVIDIA’s addition of a new datacenter in Central Europe immediately results in lower latency for SHIELD owners that connect to GRID in that region. You’ll be automatically connected to the new datacenter if it is closer to you, based on your ping time. To see which datacenter you’re connected to, click Settings in the SHIELD Hub menu, then GRID. Tap on Service Location, then Test Connection and Show Details to see what your ping time is to the nearest GRID datacenter.

The GRID Games library now includes 48 PC games that you can play on SHIELD devices, and we’re adding new games every week. Join the conversation on Twitter and use the hashtag #SHIELDTuesday to tell us which PC games you’d like us to add next.

GRID is NVIDIA’s on-demand service that streams a library of popular PC games to SHIELD devices. A subscription to GRID, which is free to all SHIELD owners through June 30, 2015, is required to play GRID games on SHIELD. Go here to learn more.
