SHIELD Software Update 59 Released

SHIELD software updates, SHIELD

SHIELD software update 59 is now available, and includes a number of key enhancements and fixes.

First, we’ve added the ability to move select app and game program (APK) files from SHIELD’s internal storage to the microSD card. This helps free up space on your internal storage to install more games and apps. Access this feature by going to Settings > Apps > (Select App) > Move to SD card.

We’ve also made some improvements for Miracast wireless streaming from SHIELD to your HDTV, reducing latency (time between button press and action on the TV) using the Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro Miracast receiver. ScreenBeam owners can download the latest Actiontec ScreenBeam firmware here (you’ll need firmware version or higher) and learn how to update their firmware here. Enable Miracast on your SHIELD via Settings > Miracast.

For your convenience, here’s a snippet on how to update your ScreenBeam firmware:

Software Update 59 also includes:

  • Improvements for PC streaming stability, gamepad detection, and Wi-Fi performance.
  • Support for Tegra developer tools including CPU sampling profiler (Tegra Profiler), and GPU analysis (PerfHUD ES).

We’ve also been working over the past month with our game developer partners to bring more games to the SHIELD library. In fact, SHIELD now provides official PC streaming support for over 30 of the hottest PC games, now including FIFA 13, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Dirt 3, Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, Resident Evil: Revelations, and more than 130 of the coolest Android™ games with controller support including Crazy Taxi, Blitz Brigade, and Asphalt 8.

Try the OTA out and give us your feedback in the comments below or in the SHIELD forums. Happy gaming!
