The Green Box Bundle Brings Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2 and Portal to the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet This Holiday

SHIELD, Bundles

This holiday season, three of the most critically acclaimed video games of all time are headed to the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet in a brand new gaming bundle dubbed The Green Box.

Purchasing a new 32GB, 4G LTE NVIDIA SHIELD tablet this winter will give gamers a trio of timeless titles from Valve for free: Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2 and Portal. All three games look and play just as great on SHIELD as the full PC versions and come fully optimized for the SHIELD wireless game controller, which is required to play them.

Thanks to the next-gen 192-core Tegra K1 processor powering the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet, the games look just as visually impressive as you remember them on PC. Tegra K1-exclusive graphical effects in Half-Life 2 and Portal, for instance, include render-to-texture shadows, bump mapping, specular highlights, motion blur and higher-quality texture filtering.

If you were previously on the fence about getting a SHIELD tablet, or are looking to upgrade from the 16GB, Wi-Fi only model or SHIELD Portable, there’s really no better time to take advantage of The Green Box gaming bundle and score some of Valve’s greatest games for free. Here’s a look at the games included in the new bundle.

Half-Life 2: Episode One

Set immediately after the cataclysmic events that transpire in Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One once again casts players as theoretical physicist turned action hero, Dr. Gordon Freeman. At the beginning of Episode One, Freeman awakens outside the Citadel, the headquarters of the nefarious transhumans known as the Combine. He must attempt to escape from City 17 unscathed with the aid of his ally, Alyx Vance.

Half-Life 2: Episode One introduces a number of graphical and gameplay enhancements to the Half-Life series including new lighting and animation technologies, a more sophisticated AI for Alyx, and a Gravity Gun for manipulating objects in your environment in order to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. Half-Life 2: Episode One will be exclusively available only for the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet.

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2 is a gripping sci-fi first-person shooter that puts players in control of Dr. Gordon Freeman, who is awakened from stasis by a mysterious man in a suit known as the G-Man approximately two decades after the conclusion of the original Half-Life.

At the beginning of Half-Life 2, the G-Man immediately sends Freeman on a train headed to City 17, where he will cross paths with a memorable cast of characters including Resistance member Alyx Vance as well as a nightmarish array of zombies, enemy soldiers, and parasitic alien headcrabs. Luckily, Freeman is armed with his trusty crowbar and various weapons he’ll pick up during his treacherous adventure.

Winning numerous awards for its groundbreaking, genre-blending gameplay and fantastic writing, Portalis a first-person puzzle game that drops players in a strange facility known as the Aperture Science Laboratories.

As the game’s silent protagonist Chell, players must solve Aperture’s many mind-bending puzzles while utilizing the game’s iconic Portal Gun—an experimental device that creates two portals through which objects and players can pass.

The 32GB, 4G LTE NVIDIA SHIELD tablet is now available to purchase online, which gives gamers access to all three titles included in The Green Box bundle of games for free.

Half-Life 2 and Portal are already available to download via the SHIELD Hub and TegraZone while Half-Life 2: Episode One will become available very soon.
